The group had decided that they must meet with an emissary of Kraken Boors, currently hiding out within the city. They hope this self-proclaimed cleric of the New God may be able to help Penni. Thankfully, the meeting with the emissary goes without incident, despite Mara's hateful stares. Here the party learns that the ideals of the New God is not one of conquest, but that in battle ones mettle can be truly tested.
The emissary agrees to help with Penni, in return he asks if they will look into a cult he and his men have been having a hard time rooting out. From their limited research they believe a member of the cult of the Ninth Hand runs a bakery in the Marketplace.
Using their hot tracking and investigative skills, the party finds Elaida, a soft spoken and portly baker who serves the local taverns and restaurants their daily bread needs. Mara, however, is not fooled and senses the demonic presence hiding within Elaida. Without delay the dispatch the poor old woman, freeing the shadow demon hiding within her. It too perished.
Not wanting to be seen as criminals they call the local law to explain. While waiting for Mara to arrive with the law, others find a secret tunnel underneath the bakery. Not wanting to get separated, they decide to explore it later when they can. However, the sergeant to arrive on the scene seems very belligerent and works to keep everyone away from the cellar and where the secret tunnel is. This leads to the unwarranted arrest of Everette on trumped up charges.
It takes several hours to sort things out and a small fine before he is released. The party, knowing something very strange is afoot, head back to the bakery that evening and sneak their way in, following the secret tunnels.
What they discover is a massive network of tunnels running beneath the city. As they get further in they come across mine tracks that are being laid down. Further and further they travel, finding the network to be much older than originally anticipated. When finally the come across a group of hideous monsters lead by two humans, more cultists of the Ninth Hand.
A small battle ensues, but these demonic beings are no match for the holy party of believers.
Finding a mine shaft heading down, they all delve deeper, finding themselves in a much older part of the tunnels, faced with several paths, they choose one and wonder ever further — hoping to find an end soon…
